About this watch
With its subtle structure and a smooth, slightly silky feel, the 50g (1.76oz) case made of Carbon Fiber Composite was entirely developed in-house. Bezel and crown are made of scratch-proof Zirconium Oxide ceramic. Limited to just 30 pieces, the unique Dégradé dial is handcrafted and features razor-sharp horizontal lines that were CNC machined one by one. On top of that, a patented Micro-Adjustment System on the carbon deployant clasp makes the Essence Leggera wear exceptionally well and allows for easy and quick strap changes.
Robust. The deep black color is achieved through material choice rather than surface coating like DLC or PVD, which ensures that your watch will always stay black. With a hardness that surpasses that of any traditional metal used in watchmaking, Zirconium Oxide ceramic is a scratch-proof material that will never show any signs of wear or aging. Being the most exposed components of a watch case, both bezel and crown are made of this high-tech ceramic.
Luxurious. Hand-finished with undiluted passion, the Essence is crafted with an execution only found in high-end timepieces. The movement's accuracy has been tested and certified by COSC, the official Swiss Testing Institute for Swiss Chronometer.
Comfortable. Our patented Case Suspension System and carbon fiber composite clasp with patented Fine Adjustment System adapt to your wrist movements and daily adventures.
Bold. Above a complex construction lies an elaborate case with a feather-light Carbon Composite case with titanium container, which was entirely developed in-house.
Yours. You don’t have to sit in the lap of luxury to put something luxurious on your wrist. Our direct-to-consumer approach means you'll get high quality watches at a fraction of the cost of any comparable Swiss timepiece.

case suspension system
Since the beginning of Formex in 1999, the patented Case Suspension System has been an integral part of every single Formex timepiece. The system absorbs shocks to protect the mechanical movement from heavy impacts and adds to the comfort on the wrist by adapting to the wearer’s movements. Modeled with high-performance bikes and racing cars in mind, the Formex patented case suspension system works by integrating four springs between the upper and lower watch case. The result is the ultimate shock absorption system designed to protect the mechanical movement and deliver unparalleled comfort to the wearer. This patented case suspension system brings form and function together for Formex Swiss watches. It’s functional, it’s state of the art engineering and it’s unquestionably unique - all in one watch.
officially certified movement
The Essence is powered by a Swiss Made STP 11-1 self-winding movement with a power reserve of 42 hours. We've chosen its highest quality grade "Chronometer" because it comes with premium components such as a Glucydur balance wheel which is exceptionally hard and stable, very resistant to deformation, non-magnetic, and non-corrosive. The movement is completely decorated and wound by Formex’s in-house developed and custom built skeletonized rotor. Each one of these movements is certified by the COSC (the official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) and undergoes the meticulous 15-day rate test to ensure extraordinary levels of mechanical accuracy and precision. Each certified chronometer is unique, identified by a number engraved on its movement and a certificate number issued by the COSC. While less than 3% of Swiss watch movements are officially certified, Formex further rate test them per the same criteria after assembly, to measure if there is any deviation from the certification rates.
fine adjustment clasp
Besides contributing to visual appeal, the details on the Essence also serve a purpose. For a timepiece to be a watch for all occasions, it needs to feel exceptionally comfortable on the wrist. For even more wrist comfort, Formex added their patented Carbon Fiber Composite Folding Clasp that allows for fine-adjustment of the strap length on the go, allowing for a perfect fit on the wrist in all conditions and temperatures. The same clasp can be used for different straps, as all straps and the clasp itself can be changed without the use of any tools.
SRUPULOUS ATTENTION TO DETAIL
Understated at first glance, but beneath the apparent simplicity lies exceptional craftsmanship in every respect. Take the symmetrical 43mm carbon fiber composite case with its incredibly detailed finish on the ceramic bezel, perfectly rounded off with hand-finished mirror-polished bevels. The machined indexes and hands, filled with BGW9 Super LumiNova, ensure maximum legibility, day or night. They harmonize with the case’s finishing and provide a perfect balance between elegance and the brand’s high-octane spirit. The dial with its sunburst finish and CNC machined horizontal lines is one of the watch’s most defining features. To achieve the crisp lines and sharp angles, each line has been machined into the dial individually. Scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass protects the dial in the front and allows an unobstructed view of the movement’s intricate decoration together with thermally blued screws and a custom built skeletonized rotor on the back.
